For what it's worth, I didn't suggest anyone was lying. I suggested that the aforementioned MS PR guy could have answered the question in a way that didn't freak people out the way it did. Part of being able to do that is knowing clearly where the project stands and thinking about what you will say if someone asks about it. I'm not sure he did. On the other hand, one possibility I don't think anyone has considered is the "white lie" theory. There are times when you know more than you want to say at the moment. You don't tell your girlfriend "I'm going out to buy an engagement ring so I can surprise you later tonight with a marriage proposal." You tell her you're going out for a pack of cigarettes. You know what I mean? I don't know that Chris DiCesar was just being cagey to avoid leaking any details to the press. It's just an idea that occurred to me. I was going to ask him about it yesterday, because he was supposed to be at this meeting I went to with Alex and Hambone and a few Microsoft people to discuss PC/Mac Halo. Something came up and he couldn't make it. Alas. Those who want "tangible proof" that Microsoft is serious about this don't have much longer to wait. -Matt
